Artist's Description

Hudson Falls, NY

Known as Soldier's Monument in Juckett Park and donated by prominent local citizen, Dr. Erskine G. Clark, the tributes inscribed on it transcend time, identifying the village by its previous name of Sandy Hill and World War I as simply "The World War."

The monument was dedicated on June 30, 1887, "to the honor and patriotism of the soldiers of Washington County who served in our war to suppress the southern rebellion," according to its inscription.

An angel with a drawn sword stands sentry at the peak of the tall granite statue which bears the likeness of Civil War soldiers from the northern army on the east and west sides of the monument at the traffic circle in Hudson Falls.

A bronze tablet was added in 1921 honoring 23 Kingsbury residents who died in combat during World War I. The inscription reads...

Men of Kingsbury who gave their lives in the World War 1917 - 1918 Faithful unto Death

About Kendall McKernon

Kendall McKernon

In October, 2016 I opened The McKernon Gallery at 216 Main Street, Hudson Falls, New York 12839. The Gallery is filled with Wall, Functional, and Wearable Art that features my photographs, as well as wood bowls, Steampunk sculpture, original paintings, fabric wall art, glass and sculptural jewelry, and forged metal art. The...
